San Francisco is a leader in sustainability, and many residents are choosing electric vehicles (EVs) as their preferred mode of transportation. If you're thinking of upgrading your ride or simply want to part with your older electric vehicle, consider donating it to AutoBay Alliance. We accept a range of non-Tesla electric vehicles, including popular models like the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. Your contribution not only helps promote clean energy but also benefits your community.
Each vehicle you donate will be evaluated based on its condition and battery health, ensuring you receive a fair tax deduction while supporting our mission to electrify San Francisco. Whether your EV is well-loved or showing its age, it can still make a positive impact. Join us in making transportation cleaner and more sustainable—donate your electric vehicle today!

⚡HV battery health
Assessing the health of your EV's high-voltage (HV) battery is crucial when considering a donation. A state-of-health (SOH) report from an OBD-II scanner or the manufacturer's app can provide valuable insights. For instance, first-generation Nissan Leaf batteries (2011-2017) are often at risk of having an SOH below 50%, which significantly impacts their value. If your vehicle's battery is nearing the end of its life, the estimated replacement cost should also be factored into your decision-making. Most other models may have differing battery longevity; however, it's advisable to check their SOH before donating.
EV-specific pickup logistics
When donating your electric vehicle, AutoBay Alliance will arrange for a pickup using a tow flatbed, ensuring a safe transport of your EV. Our team will take care of disconnecting the HV battery as part of the process. Please note that a charging cable will be included in the pickup to facilitate easier charging for future use. If desired, you can opt for a pre-inspection at a Tesla Service Center or authorized dealer to assess the vehicle’s condition before pickup. We also accept non-running EVs, so don’t hesitate to donate even if yours needs repairs.
What drives donation value
The value of your donated electric vehicle is influenced by several factors including battery state-of-health (SOH), odometer reading, body condition, and any advanced features like Autopilot or FSD capabilities. For newer models, particularly in appraisal territory like 2021+ Mach-E, ID.4, and Ioniq 5, you may find valuations exceeding $5,000. If you're donating a higher-end model such as a Rivian or Lucid, your vehicle could be appraised at a premium based on its condition and market demand.
San Francisco EV context
In California, the landscape for electric vehicles is constantly evolving, with local incentives and regulations impacting donations. It’s important to be aware of potential EV-incentive clawbacks that could affect your tax benefits. Additionally, California has specific registration fees and ad-valorem taxes that apply to electric vehicles, which can influence their overall value. San Francisco's high EV-share density also means that there is a strong demand for vehicles like yours, making your donation even more valuable.
